The Veterans Data Storytelling Project is a VETERANetwork collaboration between the Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State, Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), and Carnegie Mellon’s CREATE Lab. The project is funded by The Heinz Endowments.

The purpose of the project is to advance an evidence-informed policy agenda. TVMI, VETS, and other data sources will be used for creation of data visualizations and storytelling about post-9/11 veterans’ experiences and outcomes. The four goals of the project listed below.

  1. Use multiple datasets to link veteran data, program data, and geographic data.
  2. Create data visualizations to help tell the stories of veterans’ experiences and outcomes.
  3. Strategically disseminate the data visualization products and materials in a manner consistent with IVMF’s policy agenda.
  4. Build capacity within the VETERANetwork to use data visualization software to modify and extend the stories told through the visualization of current and future data.
